There’s nothing better than putting a little howl into your Halloween celebration, and taking your pup on a pet friendly ghost tour could be fiendishly perfect!
Many older cities throughout the United States offer ghost tours year round, and walking tours conducted exclusively outdoors are more likely to welcome your furry partner in crime. Some tour operators even believe dogs are especially sensitive to the paranormal, and are happy to have small dogs accompany you inside building or on buses, as long as they are carried.
Plan Ahead
Naturally, October is a very popular month to take a pet friendly ghost tour. Expect to book your place in advance because few tour operators allow walk-ins … but if they do, we noted it below. Check the company’s website carefully for information on how to make reservations and where to join the tour. Deep in mind that many tour companies offer non-spooky tours as well, if you have small kids or scaredy cats.

Alabama
Huntsville – Huntsville Ghost Walk
These seasonal ghost walks happen every Friday and Saturday night in September and October. You can choose one of three guided tours through the Twickenham District, the Old Town District, or the Downtown District and leashed dogs are welcome on the walking tours.
Arizona
Bisbee – Old Bisbee Ghost Tour
The Old Bisbee Ghost Tour happens 7 nights a week between October and May and 5 nights a week between June and September. The tours last about ninety minutes and has been joined by dogs, cats, and pigs! The ghost tour is pet friendly, as long as pets are well-behaved and can be carried or are leashed for the duration of the tour. (Only service animals are permitted to join the Ghost Hunts or Haunted Pub Crawls.)
California
Eureka – Old Town Haunted History Tours
Discover the spooky side of Eureka’s history in this two-hour walking tour! Pets are welcome with one limitation: the tour stops at an inn where dogs are allowed inside, but only in the hallways; someone must stay in the hall with the dog when the rest of the tour goes into various hotel rooms.
Los Angelos – LA Ghosts
Explore the scary side of Tiseltown in this hour-long tour that covers just under a mile. Buy your tickets online then meet the group to begin your tour. Pets are welcome but must not disturb the tour.
San Diego – San Diego Ghosts
The San Diego Ghost Tour visits 8-12 different sites around the Gaslamp Quarter for a spooky, tension-filled experience. Tours begin outside the Balboa Theatre. The standard tour lasts an hour or you can take an extended tour for even more chilling history. Pets may join the tour as long as they don’t disturb anyone.
San Francisco – Haunted Haight Walking Tour
This ghost tour lasts two hours and does not include any hills. Well-behaved, leashed pets may join the walk and there are two public parks on the tour.
San Francisco – San Francisco Ghosts
What lurks in San Francisco’s fog? You’ll find out on this ghostly walking tour. Polite pups are welcome on the tour as long as they don’t disturb anyone.
Florida
Key West – Southernmost Ghosts
The weather may be warm. But you’ll still feel a chill on this tour of about a dozen haunted sites. Polite pets may join the tour as long as they don’t distract from it.
St. Augustine – St. Augustine Ghost Walking Tour
This 90 minute walking tour through old St Augustine is offered 7 days a week, and welcomes well-behaved pets on leash at no additional charge.

Learn about chilling happenings in the country’s oldest city. Yes, your pet can join you as long as they are polite and don’t disturb anyone on the tour.
St. Petersburg – Ghost Tour of St. Petersburg

Decatur – Decatur Ghost Tour
Ghost tours are available year round, and the schedule varies by season. This tour company loves having dogs on the tour, as long as they are leashed and well-behaved.
Savannah – Blue Orb Savannah Ghost Tours
Blue Orb offers both zombie (focusing on voodoo practitioners and other conjurers) and ghost tours. Well-behaved, leashed pets can join Savannah ghost tours but only service animals are allowed on the motorized Bonaventure Cemetery Tours.

Kansas
Topeka, North Topeka, and Leavenworth – Walking Ghost Tours of Kansas
Ninety minute walking tours of the most haunted spots in Kansas! Well-behaved pets are welcome to join the tour, they just ask that you call ahead to let the guide know you will be bringing your pet.
Kentucky
Louisville – Louisville Ghost Tours
This is a 90-minute tour of historic (and haunted?) tour of Old Louisville, which has a reputation of being the spookiest neighborhood in the country. Leashed pets are welcome and last-minute reservations are no problem.
Louisiana
New Orleans – Haunted History Tours
Haunted History offers a wide range of options, and pets are welcome on all tours except for the cemetery tour, the voodoo tour, the five in one tour, and the pub crawl. Dogs must be leashed and well-behaved, and owners are responsible for them at all times.
New Orleans – New Orleans Ghosts
Let gifted storytellers share the ghostly happenings of the famous French Quarter. Pets are welcome to walk with you as long as they remain on their leash and don’t disturb other guests.
New Orleans – French Quarter Phantoms
French Quarter Phantoms allows small dogs to join tours under the following conditions:

- One dog, 35 pounds or less, is allowed on the Saints and Sinners Tour and Ghost & Vampires Tour. The dog must be leashed or in a stroller or carrier.

- The Tour Treme’ Tour and Music of New Orleans Tour also allow one small dog. However, this tour takes place in a neighborhood that may have unleashed dogs and free-roaming chickens. It would not be a good choice for a dog with a strong prey drive or who reacts to other dogs.

- Only service dogs are allowed on the Garden District/Lafayette Cemetery tour or the St Louis #1 Cemetery tour.
Maine
Bar Harbor Area – Red Cloak Haunted History Tours
Walking tours are offered in several towns in the Bar Harbor Area, including Camden, Damariscotta, Wiscasset, Boothbay Harbor, Bath, Hallowell, Bar Harbor and Rockland from May through October. Friendly dogs are welcome on all walking tours.

Maryland
Baltimore – Baltimore Ghost Tours
Join one of several ghost tours through Baltimore’s historic neighborhoods. Dogs are welcome on walking tours but not on pub crawls.
Frederick – Ghost Tours of Frederick
The ninety minute tour covers about a mile, and pets are welcome on the ghost tours, but not the cemetery tours.
Massachusetts
Provincetown – Provincetown Ghost Tours
This 90-minute walking tour departs nightly at 9pm and pets are always welcome. They recommend purchasing your ticket at least ten minutes before the tour beings, but walk-ins are occasionally accepted on a first come, first serve basis.
Salem – Salem Haunted Footsteps Ghost Tours
For more than twenty seasons, Haunted Footsteps walking tours have explored the macabre and spooky side of Salem Massachusetts.
From the tour staff: “Pets are definitely allowed. We enjoy seeing how some of the animals react at different locations and we have had a few incidents that were very spooky. We just ask that if the dog starts barking uncontrollably that you walk him away until he/she settles down and then return. And also that you clean up after your pet.”
Note: Pets must be carried in the cemetery, or wait outside for that portion of the tour.

Tour days and times vary by season from summer through Halloween. Well-behaved dogs are welcome as long as they are leashed and you clean up after them.
New Mexico
Albuquerque – Albucreepy Downtown Ghost Walk
This 90 minute walking tour covers about 1 1/2 miles at a leisurely pace. Tour guides attempt to detect paranormal activity using equipment, and friendly pets are welcome to join the walk.
New York
New York – Haunted Broadway Theaters Walking Tour
Learn the mysterious side of Broadway in this two-hour tour that covers about half a mile. Tours begin in Times Square and friendly dogs are welcome.
New York – Ghosts, Murder and Mayhem Tours
Choose from two-hour walking tours in Greenwich Village, Lower Manhattan, or Hell’s Kitchen. Dogs on a leash are welcome, as long as they aren’t disruptive and you clean up after them.

Tennessee
Chattanooga – Chattanooga Ghost Tours
Well-behaved pets are welcome on both the tour and the downtown hunt. However, the tour does not end where it starts, and pets other than service animals are not allowed on Chattanooga’s free electric shuttle, which many guests use to return to their cars after the tour. The walk back to the starting point is about 6 blocks.
Reservations made on the website will receive a small discount, and walk-ups will be accepted if there is room.
Note that pets are not allowed on hunts that go into the cemetery.
Gatlinburg – Ghost Walk of Gatlinburg
Meet the spooky side of Gatlinburg on this leisurely tour of downtown. Tours are available every night of the week, and friendly, well-behaved dogs are allowed on leashes. Owners are responsible for keeping the pet under control and refunds will not be granted because a pet is having a bad night.
Nashville – Nashville Ghost Tours
Hear tales of spirits that haunt notable Nashville landmarks such as the Tennessee State Capital, President Polk’s Tomb, the Ryman Auditorium, and Printer’s Alley. Dogs are welcome on all outdoor tours. Pets must be friendly, on a leash, and you must clean up after them.

San Antonio – Alamo City Ghost Tour
On this walking tour of haunted spots in San Antonio, guests are provided ghost hunting equipment to detect paranormal activity. Dogs on leash are welcome.
San Antonio – Bad Wolf Ghost Tours
